It’s a great bit-the first time you see it. If you’ve seen the Jackass 3 trailer, you’ve seen the “High Five” gag, where unsuspecting members of the Jackass gang walk through a door and are knocked flat by a giant, spring-loaded rubber hand. The first ten minutes of the movie sucked.By the time someone got up to complain, the Beavis and Butt-head intro explaining how to use the 3D glasses had passed, and the mad opening credits sequence was half over. Yes, the Paramount and Dickhouse logos were accompanied not with music, but with a dreadful “whump-whump” warble that sounded first like a helicopter landing on top of the theatre, and then like a muffled earthquake. The sound was out for the first three minutes.Fortunately, strangely, the theatre was packed with rowdy, eager fans. ![]() This is definitely the way to experience Jackass, but 10am on a Saturday is not a friendly invitation. I watched the first two movies with groups of friends. Yesterday, I was given three omens of doom-three signs that I should not watch Jackass 3. Aren’t these guys, like, forty? And they’re still running around filming juvenile stunts for MTV? To be honest, I didn’t know if a third installment would be defensible. These are not easy to sell to “serious” film lovers, or to anyone who believes themselves above such entertainment (about ninety-nine percent of the population). ![]() ![]() On the handful of occasions that I had to defend my love for the Jackass movies, I got about two sentences in before my audience’s eyes glazed over. ![]() ![]() If you want people to wear them everywhere on the grounds you should adjust your website accordingly. The website clearly states we do not need to wear one outdoors. About masks.I really didn't appreciate being barked at to wear one while I was OUTSIDE. There is no way to social distance inside the house. ![]() I can see why they ask you to wear a mask on the tour. What we got was a unique old house that was built by an eccentric millionaire which was still pretty cool! Our tour guide Melanie was amazing and full of fun stories and information but it was a bit crowded. I've wanted to visit this house for a long time and I guess I was expecting more weird twists and turns and maybe even some haunted stories. Overall, really happy with the experience you really should go if you have the opportunity. ![]() That said, our tour guide was Jennifer, and we also very much enjoyed how informative and nice she was. You do get access to rooms you don't see on the house tour, but overall it wasn't QUITE our scene. Our second tour was the Spirits tour, and I'd thought it would mostly be about Victorian spirituality, and it was partially about that, but there was also a lot of ghost stories. That said, our house tour was with Freddie, and she was amazing - really lovely and informative we very much enjoyed her and the tour. So I'd say maybe don't depend on that number or email. I ended up buying a second set of tickets (totaling $200 for three people for two tours), and after four days of not hearing back, asked for the refund at the ticket counter, which they gave me without any problems. Well, I emailed and called 5 times each (plus reached out on Facebook and Twitter) and didn't get a response. I saw on the site and in the confirmation email that you could get a refund or rescheduled date by calling their number or emailing. One hiccup: We made a reservation for a Tuesday, but when an atmospheric river came through our area, it was too treacherous to drive (San Jose is more than an hour from our house). We took my mom on her 82th birthday, and overall we had a great time. So go, and ask for Victor! You will not be disappointed. The tours are meant to be taken back-to-back like I did today. The ghost tour goes places you don't get to go in the main house tour (like the attic and the basements), but if you only do the ghost tour, you miss out on almost all the main history of the house. Note for the pro traveler: do both tours if you really want to get a full view of the house. I was a little skeptical at around $70 a person for both tours after taxes, but after I was through with it I felt it was well worth it. It turned out that only my brother, my cousin, and I signed up for the ghost tour, so we got a personalized VIP tour where we got endless access to the guide, who was more than obliging toward our many queries. He was so insanely knowledgeable, had answers for pretty much everything, and was hilarious to boot. There were some legitimately creepy parts, but best of all was our tour guide Victor. After the main house tour, we went on the additional Walk of Spirits tour, which is their tour that focuses more on the ghostly aspects of the Sarah Winchester story. The house itself is a bizarro experience, with strange architecture at every turn. He was funny, with wry jokes and a well-rehearsed spiel that allowed plenty of time for questions. I went with a couple of family members in town, and on the main house tour we got Gene as our guide. The Winchester Mystery House is a lot of fun. ![]() Here you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions as well as troubleshooting guides for common issues like login problems or camera glitches. I also have a set of Magura HS33 hydraulic brakes which I was planning to install on the Swifty Zero but may use them on the Swifty Air instead. ![]() I have a set of mudguards to install, though there’s not much clearance with the Maxxis Hookworm tyres and I may not bother. The issue was solved by changing the handlebar stem for an Odyssey Summit BMX stem, giving me a rise of about 45 mm.Īnd that’s all for now. I’m sure there are good reasons for this but I just don’t feel comfortable having to lean forwards so much. The handlebar height of the Swifty Air is about 40 mm less than that of the Swifty Zero and I find the difference quite noticeable. The handlebar grips were swapped for a spare set of Ergon GP1 grips. I’ll need to pad out the diameter as changing the straps each time is a fiddle and I suspect they will eventually snap. As the diameter was 10 mm less than that of the Swifty Zero handlebars, I had to swap the rubber straps for shorter ones. Next, I attached the two Knog Blinder Road 400 lights to the cross brace on the handlebars. Again, the two bolts were changed for slightly longer ones (See Load Carrying for more). Next a few small items, including a bell, a Klickfix Caddy Post Clamp to allow me to swap the Rixen and Kaul Vario Rack between the two scooters. Tyre sealant has already been installed in the inner tubes. ![]() The Swifty Air will be dedicated to off-road use, hence the chunkier tyres. Move to the shed and time for a few small mods here and there.įirst on the list was to swap the stock wheel set for a pair of Remerx Dragon Line 719 quick release wheels, fitted with Maxxis Hookworm tyres. No missing parts, everything working just fine, quick road test satisfactory. My Swifty Air has arrived, assembly is complete and easy as pie. Now, following the traditions of the silent screen. ![]() Hopefully, it should arrive early next week. So, the online order form was duly filled in and I now await, with much anticipation I might add, the arrival of a new stable-mate for my Swifty Zero. Accessories such as my Knog Blinder Road 400 lights and my Rixen and Kaul Vario Rack with it’s Altura Arran 16 litre pannier, could easily be switched between the two scooters, all I would need is another Klickfix Caddy Post Clamp for the Swifty Air. I could have my present Swifty Zero set up entirely for road use and have the Swifty Air set up for off-road use. Then I noticed the Swifty Air, the off-road version, was in the sale, price reduced by £150. I did swither for a while but decided to give it a miss in the end. Yes, perhaps when I retire I may justify one to myself but not today when I’m only 57 years old. However, I like the Swifty Zero for the exercise and having one with an electric motor, well, felt like cheating somehow. No, it wasn’t but there was a Swifty Zero-e reduced by £350 which was very tempting indeed. I was thinking of buying the electric kit anyway and wondered if that was in the sale. Honest, I was only going to look at the specification for my current Swifty Zero on the Swifty website when I noticed a great big splash page. And to be fair, I didn’t have any intention what-so-ever of purchasing anything. You will probably have heard of Black Friday, when there are plenty of sales to be had. |
